So it was, as it always is; hard to leave Jodi's unit in Vienna. She is great fun to be with and we had a ball spending time with her. The only problem is (Will Be Jodi ;) ) when she comes to visit us, we have to give up our bedroom & ensuite for our guest!! As promised...

Slowly we got ready and departed. We had promised to say goodbye to Jodi at Dr Adolf's Pathology Lab. where Jodi works. Chow, see ya later Jodi....maybe another 2 years from now?!
We had not bought the Vienyetta card (a toll card to use on the Austrian Motorways, probably similar to an e-tag in Victoria) we needed to use for the motorways so we slowly drove the busy secondary roads heading south toward Slovenia. The weather was mostly fine with a few (very) brief showers to cool the road. We motored past more and more fields with the normal assortment of cows, sheep, the odd goat, ducks and hens.

As we had managed to leave late, it meant we got into the Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia around 18:00. We drove about looking for a 'priced' right hotel. We took a Hostel that was 50 euros in the middle of the old town area. The bike had to sleep on the street which was not my preferred option. However, it was fine for the one night we stayed. We took a walk about, getting a delicious Souvelaki in a fresh roll. A slight difference to a kebab that I thought I had asked for. Anyhow it was fine, and tasty. Walking the old town by the river, where there were plenty of people still eating and drinking in the many cafe's along this area. We did the block as the rain started to fall more heavily.
This was the night they were tipping the Costa-Condordia upright. A storm was rolling across this part of the upper Med. It hit Ljubljana about 03:00 with a full on thunder storm, and plenty of rain.
It was still raining when I got up for that 'nature' call about 10 min to 7am. We had a brief discussion and went back to bed. I had set the alarm clock in Debs mbl for 8am so thought we'd sleep 'til then and decide if we were going to ride on. At about 10am I re-awoke to the sound of rain falling, but it was less than before. To my suprise Deb said lets go...
The pack up was quick and we were back at the bike and loading gear in about 30mins. Then on the road once more heading south. We had hoped to ride to the Croatian Island of Krk. But this plan went the way they some times do...
We rode the smaller roads, and 'looked' at a few of the logging roads. But with the rain the night before, 2 up on a 250 Kg bike I decided that tarmac was a better option. We did not really need to prove we could travel off road in the mud!
We arrived at a small border crossing point into Croatia about 16:00, but were told we could not cross there. As it was a 'local' crossing point only. We'd need to head back east about 20 Kms to the bigger town (bigger road) and cross there. After crossing I managed to have a small mapping issue and got us a bit lost. The GPS was used an expensive compass for this day. Anyhow we eventually rode back to the border town and took the right road climbing up a mountain range and to the town of Delnice. It looked like a ski village type of town. We negotiated a room for 40 euro, with breakfast WiFi etc. The lady at reception was very helpful, she spoke very good English also.
It was a cool start (3'c) but sunny when we road away the next morning. It was a shorter day riding with a ferry trip out to the island of Cres, and the small fishing town of Valun. We have a small bungalow styled room we have booked for 2 days. (leaving on Friday morning). It is a very nice & cosy place, we have a proper little kitchenette to use, crockery, cutlery, pots & pans supplied. Dinner last night was fresh fried calamari in flour, hmmm!, also a squid risotto for entree! Tonight we cooked tortellini pasta.
